The redesign project worked on the balance in the public space sharing between the different transport modes and the necessary quiet spaces. The goal was to recommend a redesign draft that increased the pedestrian and cyclist comfort and security, encouraged lower car speeds and improved the quality and amenity of the public space.
The project was realized by a multidisciplinary team – transport engineers, urban designer and civil engineers. Citec Ingénieurs Conseils was leading the project and was responsible for the transportation tasks. Tamara Bozovic was responsible for the assessment (parking demand and capacity, traffic speeds, pedestrian network and quality), the future multi modal accessibility concept (variants, evaluation, recommendation) and the specific inputs in the redesign concept, involving shared space and traffic calmed areas (work with the architects, evaluation, propositions).
The result of the common work was a coherent concept addressing the soft modes’ needs and providing the framework for an improvement of the public space quality. It included in particular a new concept for the 30 km/h area, shared spaces designed to lower the car speeds but also and above all provide comfortable conditions for the pedestrians and the bikes and a car parking concept compatible with the goals.
