Competences

Since 2002, the urban transport planning practice has always been for me a facilitator of good outcomes for the collectivity – places that are pleasant to live in, allow people of all ages, abilities or levels of income to access their destinations, work for the local economy, encourage participation and social connectedness, and limit the overall collectivity costs (money, space, environmental harms, loss of health). The competences I offer are about decision support, about how, what, and when, making the best use of the users’ insights and the opportunities for improving the integration with the land use.  

Competences by type

Assessment
Provide the key elements facilitating the understanding of the present situation – a transport service or infrastructure, a specific issue, or the need for a structured analysis of the mechanisms at work. The comprehension of the present operations / malfunctions is essential to fully targeted actions. Improving the vision of different users’ needs and current patterns, and analyzing the interactions within the overall transport system and with the land use is essential for targeting and assessing options.
Decision-support
Display the key elements offering a better insight into a choice – build or not a new installation? modify an existing service? what transport system for a new development? … Options generation and assessment based the analysis of broader effects against the objectives.
Good practices
For a given situation/problem, present a series of measures undertaken in similar contexts along with their main characteristics and impacts. Good practices can be very inspiring when a new action is considered. The goal is to show the relevant aspects and identify the effects of the action on the interesting parameters (use / modal split / customers’s satisfaction / …). The examples research can aim very different types of actions in terms of mode or scale.
Sectoral proposals
Elaborate a recommendation or solution variants for a specific problematic, comment their aspects, advantages and inconvenients in order to facilitate the decisions. Whether addressing a pedestrian or cyclist infrastructure, an accessibility scheme of a parking lot or a hospital, the dimensioning of bicycle parking spaces or the improvement of a public transport offer, the tasks can vary a lot. They aim to answer in a targeted fashion to the client’s question, taking account of the insights of the current use and the foreseen developments.
Complete studies
Present a complete analysis including the diagnosis, the goals examination, the variants generation and evaluation and recommendations for a given problematic. The services can be as different as a bike-sharing network masterplan, a reorganization proposal for a public transport service or a vision of the pedestrian accessibility of a generator of trips. Studies should be scaled to fit the client’s expectations and desired deliverables, as well as the data available / to be collected.

    First analysis of the obstacles to the bike use,  bicycle policy audit through workshops with local stakeholders (BYPAD), proposals for local infrastructures specific for bikes or aiming a multi-modal cohabitation, bikesharing networks and operation.

    Demand analysis, offer/demand adequation, demand forecasting, analysis of improvement variants, decision-support.

  • Change

    Change

    Redesign of transport infrastructures – for instance, creation of a 30 km/h sector or a shared street, communication help (good practices, data synthesis, …), identification of the obstacles and possible solutions.
