Gland, Switzerland is located on the lake of Geneva, between Geneva and Lausanne, and serviced by frequent train connections to both towns and beyond. The average passengers flow was 6’000 persons / work day (2013) and planned to increase to 9’000 /day in 2030.
The existing railway station underpass was problematic because its gauge was insufficient regarding the foreseen pedestrian and bicycle flows, and its Northern access is incompatible with the planned extension of the rail infrastructure (4th line through the station).
A mandate was given to a work group composed of a civil engineer, architects and a transportation engineer in order to propose a design draft for a new underpass corresponding to the future needs in terms of flows, comfort and quality. The transportation engineering tasks, realized by Tamara Bozovic within Citec Ingénieurs Conseils included:
