The western part of the city of Lausanne (Ouest lausannois) is home for 75’000 inhabitants, 50’000 jobs and a major Swiss campus. An important development is foreseen, and is being accompanied by an ambitious planning, aiming sustainability and quality of life.
Beyond the existing bike sharing stations (Publibike, mainly on the campus), the Municipalities wished to establish a strategic vision on this service. This study’s aims were:
A specific methodology has been developed and implemented in order to evaluate all the potential locations for the stations (more than 60) regarding 4 major criterias. The idea was to provide a transparent output, allowing the Municipalities to have an idea of their ideal network, with a different weighing for each criteria – the opposite of a “black box” result.
The interaction with the follow-up group (representatives of the Municipalities) has been very rich and has allowed to reach a common vision of the masterplan and its implementation strategy.
