In 20 years of service, Lausanne’s light rail line’s service had already undergone several adjustments. The line was very popular and was particularly heavily used by the Universities’ students, both campuses using the line as the main connector to the center of Lausanne and Renens (local centre and railway station).
The goal of this study (2006) was to establish a vision of the future demand, taking into account the planned urban intenification and the further developments of both campuses. The demand forecast was needed as the main decision support for the long term capacity management and options assessment (infrastructure, new vehicles, etc).
The methodology included a complete baseline assessment of the demand, the vision of the critical segments / time periods, and a detailed analysis of the demand growth. This work was realized by Tamara Bozovic for Lausanne’s public transport – Transports publics de la région lausannoise SA.
